TPD Compliance

What is the TPD?

The Tobacco Products Directive (2014/14/EU) became law on 20th May 2016 to regulate the manufacture, sale, and marketing of tobacco-related and nicotine containing products, including vaping devices and e-liquids.

All products sold in the UK and EU must comply with this directive. From 20th May 2017, only TPD compliant vape products could legally be sold to consumers.

At Vape Pods, every product we stock is fully compliant with TPD and UK regulations, ensuring our customers receive safe, tested, and properly labelled products.

Why Vaping Products Are Regulated

Vaping products are covered by the TPD because they are designed to deliver nicotine, which is derived from tobacco. These rules exist to protect consumers, promote product safety, and ensure consistent quality across the vaping industry.

Key TPD Rules for Vape Products

Here’s a summary of the main requirements introduced by the TPD that affect all e-liquids and devices sold at Vape Pods:

  • Child-resistant and tamper-proof packaging for all e-liquids and vape devices
  • Maximum tank and pod capacity: 2ml
  • Maximum nicotine strength: 20mg/ml
  • Maximum e-liquid bottle size (with nicotine): 10ml
  • Leak-proof and shatter-resistant designs for all devices
  • Consistent nicotine delivery with every puff
  • Full ingredient disclosure and notification to the relevant UK regulatory authority before sale

Every brand and product we list complies with these regulations and is verified under the UK Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 (TRPR) the UK’s implementation of the TPD.

How the TPD Benefits Vapers

While the TPD introduced some restrictions, it also brought major benefits to the vaping community:

  • Improved product safety and quality through testing and regulation
  • Child-proof packaging to prevent accidental access
  • Leak-free refilling mechanisms for easier, safer use
  • Greater transparency of ingredients for all e-liquids

The TPD has helped protect UK vapers from unsafe or unregulated products, ensuring that what you buy online from reputable retailers like Vape Pods is safe and reliable.

The TPD After Brexit

After the UK left the EU, the TPD regulations were carried over into UK law under the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (TRPR).

The UK government has signalled its intention to review vaping laws in the future, potentially removing unnecessary restrictions such as the 2ml tank limit or 10ml bottle size cap.

Until then, Vape Pods continues to operate under full TRPR compliance to ensure all products meet the highest safety and legal standards.
